A couple days ago, a user couldn't connect to any network drives. It was because the "Client for Microsoft Networks" service wasn't enabled. The problem is, when I check mark the service, it asks if I'm sure i want to disable the service. Pretty much there is no way to enable it. Today, another...
My parent's hard drive bit the dust. I have been able to access the files on it via an external usb adapter. I have been able to restore most of their files, but i don't know where their contacts ended up. They used Outlook 2000 to access their comcast.net email account. I've never used outlook...
You can choose which exetentions XP regards as executable.
1. Right-click "My Computer" and select properties
2. Under the "Advanced" tab, open "Enviromental Variables"
3. In the lower box, edit "PATHEXT" and add BAT to the list
I'm not sure this will do it.
Good Luck

If you have onboard video and wish to upgrade to a separate video card, a general rule of thumb is to disable the onboard video to avoid conflicts. You do this through the BIOS which can be accest by hitting the "delete" key or "F1" key when you first turn on the computer. Also, make sure that...
Try installing the newest catalyst drivers from ATI's website.
This may likely solve your issues.
Also, try "Windows Updates". After you have search for updates, make sure you have all the drivers selected (they aren't by default).
Good Luck

Upgrading to a 64-bit Athlon system would require at least DDR-333 RAM. Sound cards integrated into motherboards today are pretty good, so you wouldn't need to worry about that. Unless your video card is fairly new (GeForce4 or Radeon 9000 or higher), it would be wise to replace this as well...
To correct Daire, Raid 0, 0+1, or 1 arrays do not help seek times. To gain a noticable performance gain by way of Hard Drive upgradeing, i agree with paparazi. Those new 10k rpm WD are amazing. However, 2 raptors will cost around $225 a piece. If I were you, I would buy a single 120-250 gig...
Your paticular motherboard only supports raid with Serial ATA. If you want to setup a Raid config with your current drives, a separate PCI ATA Raid card would be needed. A possible alternative would be to buy a couple ATA->SATA adaptors

My problem involves VLC video player slowing my system to almost nothing for 1-2 minutes after it starts sng up. This is caused, I am almost certain, by my PCI raid0 setup having to low a latency. Normally it wouldn't, but my AGP ATi 9200 has a latency of 248 while the Raid card has a latency...
I have not had a Dual CPU board, so take any other advice over mine. But as far as I know (i have read quite a bit on installing XP), nothing special is involed during installation.

Having the DVD drive as Secondary master would be preferrable in your case. This would make the Hard Drive and DVD drive use separate channels. It would also require a second IDE cable (cheap) if you don't have one.
Also, with new DVD drives, upgrading your firmware is of great importance...
If it is a wireless, then I have no solution. If it isn't, most likely the problem involves "power Options" under the bios. Soething to do with DMPS (i think), VSync + off (i think) or something of that nature.

These mini-crashes are what most people call the "Blue Screen of Death" or BSOD. It can be caused by almost anything. Since you have only upgraded your processor and memory, 90% chance it is bad RAM.
