has the laptops always had this problem? is it not usable anymore? it could have been fried by a power surge.
try disabling it in hardware manager, it might work.
check the power lead to your power supply (the one from the wall)... try replacing it or plugging it into your monitor to see if you monitor works with it in.

nah, the disk im talkin about is a 20gb ATA33 formatted into one ntfs partition.

when you short soldered the CMOS jumper did you remove the battery? if you didnt it is likely the CMOS has not been reset. you should short solder the points, remove the battery, wait five minutes, reinsert the battery, un short-solder the points and boot the pc.

if you are using roaming profiles, try to store the profile on the machine you log on most, this will stop your settings being dragged over your network everytime you log on.
