I have a 2003 server with two NICs. One is used for the internal network and is working fine. The other is used to access the internet from the server with IP,Subnet,Gateway and DNS supplied by internet provider. I can not get this second connection to work. When I try to connect to the...
longhair & rmcp2k,
Thanks for the reply. The problem was actually on the server. When I set up a folder as shared everything worked. However, when I reboot the server sharing for these folders has been turned off.
I am under a time restraint so I have rebuilt the server and all appears to...
I have a file server running SBS 2000. Whenever I restart/reboot the machine it clears all of the shares that I have set. I can reset the shares and all works well until the next time I reboot. Any suggestions as to what might be the problem.
Thanks!
Whenever I create a shortcut to a DOS program (PIF file) and try to run it on a Windows XP machine I am prompted to select the application to use to run the file. Is there something I can do to fix this problem short of reinstalling XP?
Thanks in advance.
I have a user that would like to access our file server (via VPN) from his home computer. His home computer is a Mac. Is this possible? My Macintosh experience/knowlegdge is nill!
Thanks in advance for your help.
Jpoandl,
Thanks for the response. I do not think this is likely either. But I thought I'd ask. The person handling the computers at this division is an accountant/office manager and is not very competant when it comes to computers. I have a feeling there is something he is not telling me...
We have a division that is running a Windows 2000 SBS File server with predominantely Win 98 clients. We have been trying to migrate them to XP clients but the office manager has been resistant. He claims that every time he adds a XP machine to the network the network grinds to halt. Being...
macten88 & linney,
Thanks for the responses.
macten88 - The network consists of one server and approximately 25 desktops. Everything has been running fine for the past couple of years. This problem began a few weeks ago and only on this computer.
linney - The folders are on the local...
I have a laptop with XP Professional installed. When I am connected to the network the computer is very slow opening up folders and accessing dropdown menus (i.e. right click shortcut menus). When I log in locally to the computer everthing works fine. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
I have a Windows XP(Professional) machine that is connected to a Windows 2000 SBS server. When I set the default printer to a networked printer everything works fine until I restart/logoff the machine. When the machine restarts the default printer has switched back to the printer I have...

I have an XP machine which I am having problems getting the machine to map drives based on a user account.
If I log on to another machine with the user (using xp)I am able to see and access all drives according to the login script.
I can map the drives manually and I can access the server by...
Niksen,
Thanks for the suggestion. This showed that the default gateway changes from the external nic's gateway setting to the internal nics's gateway setting whenever RRAS is started. This would explain why I am not able to surf when RRAS is started. My next questions is why is this...
The server I am using has 2 NIC's, one for internal network use and the other for external network (i.e. surfing, terminal service, etc...). Everything seemed to be working fine. I was able to access the internet using the external nic as well as access the server via terminal services through...
I am having difficulties getting the SBS 2000 Shared Fax service working on the Windows XP machines at one of our plants. The faxing works fine if the user is given administrative rights on the server but if the user has normal rights he/she is not able to send faxes from his/her XP machine...
I have recently switched all of our Divisions over to Windows 2000 server from a Novell server. Everything seemed to go fine. However, one of the divisions is unable to access the ftp site of one of our clients. They are able to access other ftp sites. Also, I am able to access the problem...
I'm more concerned about Win 95/98 machines logging on to a Windows 2000 server. The wording of my original questions might have been a little confusing.
We have just completed switching from a Novell Server to a Windows 2000 Server. In Novell, if a user was not connected to the network the computer would bypass the network logon screen. Is there a way to do this same thing with Windows 2000? If so, how?
Thanks in advance for your help.
When trying to set up a Windows XP (Professional) machine to log on to a domain I receive the following message:
"The following error occurred attempting to join domain "Civescorp":

I am able to ping the...
