The new library at our university has full wireless coverage and 24 circulating laptops with internal wireless cards. Problem: we have a Windows 2000 domain which requires logon.
We were hoping that by turning WEP off on the access points in the library, the computers would be able to hop onto...
You install the printer on your XP "server," and then share it by name, so that other users could access it after the fashion...

We've been fighting this problem for a really long time in the computer labs at our school and we finally found out what the problem is. I don't have the documentation from MS handy but I'll try to find it again.
Here's the answer, and it's proven out pretty consistently, though unfortunately...
A client asked me how to do something that some of her co-workers at another office have done in some of their spreadsheets. I couldn't tell how, but it sounds incredibly handy, so I'd love to know!
She suggested that there's a way to set the left-most column (or group of columns) as "static,"...
tpittman -- What's your configuration? We have:
(X) Configure Automatic Updates: EVERY DAY AT 0700, OPTION3
(X) Specifify Intranet MS Update Service Location: SERVERNAME
(X) No Auto-restart for scheduled automatic updates installation
( ) Delay restart for scheudled installations
Feel free...
We're using a domain policy in the active directory. So are you saying that you're using a local policy on the client machine or what? Not sure I'm following.
Though it sounds like just the thing!
Anybody had any luck getting SUS to work for power users? We don't make our users admins here, but we can't seem to get SUS to work unless we do. Would really appreciate any help!!

We're running Altiris Deploy Server on a Windows XP Pro desktop. It was running fine until we had to shutdown the computer and restart it. Ever since then we've had problems. The chief clue we have is that the "pxe config service" is starting automatically but then stopping unexpectedly...
A long time ago, when we first set up our Windows 2000 Active Directory, I made some preference mode configurations in the internet explorer maintenance group policy. Whenever I go in to modify those settings now, though, the policy editor performs a small crash. That is, when I get to the...
We're looking at customizing some forms in Altiris, particularly the New Ticket input form on the My Help Desk interface. The programming language used here doesn't seem to be straight HTML. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks -- Can't believe I didn't see that.
I tried turning off the browser services, BTW, and that didn't stop it. The machines are still making their 4/8/12 host announcements (MAILHOST\BROWSE).
I thought about disabling NetBIOS over TCP/IP, but I've found that it's not even an option on alot of these machines. I could try turning off the NetBIOS Helper service and see what happens...
Re: WINS -- my understanding from Microsoft was that I didn't need to worry about WINS since I have...
All,
Just trying to clean up our network a little bit, and I discovered through my sniffer that many (most? all?) of the machines on my VLAN (and I assume the others on the network...) regularly send out NetBIOS Datagram broadcasts.
We don't do anything with NetBIOS, but we're a Windows 2000 /...
Since it was an upgrade, a lot of that configuration was probably pulled straight from the original Win98. Were you running Client for Microsoft Windows on your TCP/IP configuration? If so, how did you have it set up?
(Must agree, BTW, that a clean re-install would be umpteen times better to...
My institution runs Microsoft Exchange for e-mail. We recently setup Outlook 2000 on a client's laptop, something we've done hundreds of times before with no problem. Initially, for some reason, her Outlook was running the internet connection wizard, which does us no good because it doesn't...
Yeah, our Fluke shows the line as capable of being used for Full Duplex, but since it's a half-duplex devcice, it can't help us test auto-negotiation.
I've read your FAQ and done a lot more research now, and I'm sure you're correct about NWAY not being truly compatibile with specified Full...
