A client asked me how to do something that some of her co-workers at another office have done in some of their spreadsheets. I couldn't tell how, but it sounds incredibly handy, so I'd love to know!

She suggested that there's a way to set the left-most column (or group of columns) as "static," so that as you scroll out to the right, they can remain on the left side of your screen.

That sounds like an invaluable tool since I myself get lost sometimes by the time I'm working in column QQ or whatever...

Can anyone tell me how to set that up? Thanks so much!

Hi NcCorduan,

That's easy! Simply select the cell immediately to the right of and below the column and row where you want the split to appear and choose Window|Freeze Panes from the menu. This locks the columns to the left and rows above into position. As an alternative, you might like to experiment with Window|Split.

Cheers

Awesome! Thanks so much. This is what I get for going into IT after having all my training in Lotus 1-2-3 . . . ;-)
