    It could be a heat problem. Check if the cpu fan is running. Check your cpu temp in the Bios. Also check your throttle down temp in the Bios. I've run into machines where that was set to low and the computer constantly rebooted.

    Did you try pressing Enter when prompted for your accounts password? This should work on the account you logged into without a password before. Windows Update does not add passwords except for the asp.net account, which is added if you install the .net framework.
