With the hard-coded procedure callers must press # after leaving the message then *8 followed by the extension number and # before transfer...

The Magix system will not allow renumbering with a leading zero.
For a simple solution ask the provider to change the leading digit to anything except 7 / 8 / 9 / 0.

If its a PRI you can do some digit manipulation to route the incoming calls.
Since there is no way to do digits manipulation with a regular T1 then you can consider the folowing option:
1)Renumber a calling group to match the digits coming down the T1.
