We run a Win2k domain at our school. We had the same problem last year but i found a group policy that prevents access to specified drived no matter what and it works just fine.

The most recent OS will elect itself, so the Win 2k box will win over the NT4 box but every time you introduce a new Win2k box there will be an election.

If i decide to go down the road of Win2k server and Exchange 2000 is it possible for that to coexist with 2003 AD and if now is it poss to install exchange into its own domain and create a trust.
So i don't have to mess with my AD for now?

I am just about to do a test install of Exchange 2000 on a Windows 2003 server. Can anyone with experience of this give me a few pointers?
I've heard that there is some messing around with active directory but my installation guide doesn't mention an pitfalls, are there any?

I've been messing around with custom MMC's but am having trouble creating one for my needs.
What i'm looking for is a limited console that will allow paticular users to change passwords and unlock accounts but thats all, i don't want them to be able to mess with the Active Directory at all other...
It is possible if you use Norton Ghost of Powerquest, i use this on our test machines as soon as i bust windows i just stick in the Ghost boot floppy and 3 mins later i'm back up and running.

Are the 2 drives connected to a NT4 server?
We had a similar problem at my last place and drives mapped to the 2K servers were fine but ones mapped to NT4 servers showed a red X.
I left before getting to the bottom of it i'm afraid so no solution here, but it might give you something to go on...
We moved over about 5 months ago and it's been plain sailing, we have a very busy print server that has never been rebooted (our NT4 one needed rebooting ever couple of days) and active directory has been refined.

If you use static addressing you need to update DNS manually right?
Also someone recently told me they were running an Active Directory network without DNS, i didn't think this was possible is it?
