XP Encryption

I am trying to encrypt some folders on my XP Pro laptop but when i try it sez access denied, i have full controll and ownership of the forlders and files so way not?

My concern in your case is that:

. There may be a permissions issue, likely an NTFS right, that is not set correctly for the Folder area in which you are creating these EFS protected files.

. There might be an issue of registry corruption; I am concerned that you do not appear in all respects to have normal local Administrator rights;

. If you are using offline files, this complicates your access to EFS stores;

. If you are using the DFS filestore, there is a direct conflict with EFS;

If the EFS feature is important to your needs, I would re-image (if possible) or do a clean (not repair) install on your machine. I do not like to see issues with SIDs, and often a clean install is the only sane course. This of course should be done after every possible effort to decrypte the files has been taken. You should Google this. It is possible your issue is as simple as a bad date/time setting; or a missing Service Pack patch. Running a check on the machine for how current you are on Hotfixes, etc. would be a very good idea:
