Someone had a similar question a while back and there seemed to be a good response so I copied it....
Here it is:
You need two files from the Windows NT server resource kit.
INSTSRV.EXE
SVRANY.EXE
Copy these files to %WINDIR%\system32
then goto start\run and type in this command
Instsrv xyz...
What about this maddog? After going to the link you provided and reading it I found out that the service in Win2k called Computer Browser is the service that goes out and looks at that MaintainServerList registry entry and determines what the computer will be. (master browser, backup browser...
That wouldn't matter because users profiles are different than a machine name running on the network. When it says duplicate name on network it is talking about the actual computer name given to the box when it had the OS installed.

Can you make a batch file that will transfer the files out of one folder into the folder you want to keep updated? If so you can put that batch file in "Scheduled Tasks" (in the control panel) and tell it to run every morning at 4:00am.

Can anyone give me suggestions on how to keep a Win2k Prof machine from thinking it is the master browser in a Windows NT Domain? I'm not sure what info you would need to tell me this so I'll just leave it at this for now. I have tried to do research on it but don't find any tips or help for a...
Well Donald Lee... You would probably get more responses if you start a new thread but, if you see this...The way I have done this in the past is to boot the machine with a Win98 boot disk. Run fdisk to delete the partitions on the drive and then format the drive. After finishing the format...

When Something goes wrong with IE 5.5 it says, "IE has generated errors, an error log is being created." Does anyone know where I can find this Error Log that IE creates?
I have done a search on *.log and also have searched the Internet Explorer folder including ALL subfolders...
Get rid of that Linksys....It won't solve your problem but it will save you headaches in the future. Our Win2k machines at work do not do well at all with the Linksys cards.
Get familiar with search engines. Find one you like and type in Free Internet. You will get alot of different companies that offer free service. From that point on you will have to decide which one you want by what each one offers. Most have small adds in the browser window or a popup window...
Easiest way I found is get a router with DHCP and let it do everything.....Just make sure they are in the same workgroup. I have a 2000 and a 98 machine at home on a router with dhcp and the only thing I had to do was make sure I enabled sharing on my drives.
