@ 1DMF - I dual boot Win 8 - I also have KMS and MAK on the same system... I admit when you first add a new user it takes a bit to set it up.
but 30 min. (I hardly think that is correct). my main system is a JUNK DELL 23" AIO 4GB and when I add a new user to show (demo) it has never taken...
golly gee what all do you have still running, my Win8 Enterprise x64 with office is normal shutdown in 8 to 10s.

strange to me... because my Windows 8 does truly shutdown... very easy.
C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe -s -t 000
nothing hard about that ... if you want SHUTDOWN then SHUTDOWN...
of course if updates are installing it will finish updates and shutdown on first reboot but you then have to allow...
Shutdown also depends on how many open programs you have running.... also nice move mouse to upper left corner and close all that crap first...
many of the apps are still running, and like anything you have to close ea one first....or face corruption...

you should use
win key + x --> select command prompt as admin
if the key you installed with was to only install with but will not activate.
slmgr.vbs -upk
wait till the key is removed you will see a popup.
now to add the new key
slmgr.vbs -ipk enter key here
wait until the need to activate...

Problems is a minor bios problem..at times I get the same error, my fix ctrl+alt+del on reboot - F11 to reset the boot device .. then I reset on reboot F2 to make sure the boot sequence is 1. HD 2. DVD 3. floppy... something about the DVD thinking it has a Disk.. now if i want to boot to DVD...
Reset your wireless to defaults...I have 3 different laptops on Vista, and no problems getting on any Internet. that is set to defaults... If you altered any settings that will be your problem.. still NO - then ask Vista to diagnose the network and it will tell you what and why...
you might also...
1. Vista does not have SCSI drivers yet, so manually have your SCSI drivers on a floppy, then install the drivers when ask to install devices...
2. You might also check as admin if C:\ is NTFS under Vista requirement.. most 3rd party formats do not work...
