If you are using a tcp connector make sure you can ping the machine on the other end. You could have dropped the route out of the Exchange servers routing table.

Is it possible to create a newsfeed style discussion board in the exchange public folders without replicating to an external newsfeed server? We are just looking for the discussion functionality without the actual nntp stuff.

Ok I think I've got it.
In the MDBdata folder on the Exchange server there is a PRIV.PAT file, probably from a failed attempt to back it up with ARCserve, and I believe NTBACKUP sees that file and thinks that there is another backup taking place.
I get the following.

Active backup destination: DLT
Media name: "Media created 1/8/2004 at 8:22 AM"
Backup of "*******\********\******\Directory"

Backup description: "Set created 1/8/2004 at 8:22 AM"...
I also configured the client to use a WINS server and removed the DNS entry, did the same test. The sniffer trace show that NETBIOS Name Service traffic went to the WINS Server from the client, again resolving the name but the second nbtstat -r does not reflect said name resolution.
For some reason the IP stack on our Win2K machine's don't seem to be keeping statistics correctly, for example.
Client machine, ip configured staticly with the DNS server entry also staticly configured.
1. Open a command prompt
2. type nbtstat -r. resolved by broadcast = 104, resolved by...
Heh, it just irritates me that I gotta jump through microsofts support hoops to get this fixed. Also, I was just wondering if it is a wide spread problem.
