Ok, so I am connected to this PIX via a console cable and I start a hyperterminal session. All I see is the firewall logs scrolling past. I want to get out of that and get back to the CLI?

firewalls logs scrolling past? Sounds like someone has left a debug running.

Try typing 'undebug all' or 'no debug all' to see if that makes a difference.

Thanks for the reply.

I tried both and neither made a difference.

When I try to type nothing shows up, just the logs scrolling by.

At this point I am assuming I need some sort of key combination to break out of this logging mode.

Unsure. It depends if what you are seeing is debug info or console logging info.

You need to be in enable mode to disable both of them by typing the 'enable' command. You then specify the enable password.

From here you can issue the debug commands I mentioned above.

To disable console logging, you can type 'conf t' and enter 'no logging console'

It's not taking any commands.

I did notice that if I click and hold on the window it stops scrolling until I release.

Might be a high logging level to the console. From the enable prompt, try "config term" and "logging off". Then check the configuration. While logging is on like this you won't be able to see your commands, so just type carefully and hope.

Also, you could SSH to the device and check there. It's probably not also logging to monitor. Using the PDM would also work.

If you can't get the commands to take do a password recovery on it, remove the logging lines and make the passwords the same. I have had to do this on a few occasions.
Here are the images and a complete walkthrough

If you are using Windows and don't have a TFTP server - Solarwinds makes a great one. Be sure and add UDP port 69 to your Windows firewall exceptions.

You might also try just unplugging all the interfaces and use your console cable. That should halt almost all of the messages scrolling by.
