4406D+ digital phones companding A/U law problem

4406D+ digital phones companding A/U law problem

4406D+ digital phones companding A/U law problem

(OP)
Hi,

I received some 4406D+ news Digital Avaya Phones, but when
I connected they to any free port of the Digital 30 module in an IPOFFICE 406 they show at the display

"Warning: u-law e
          A-law s"

After that ths phone work, but the sound is very corrupted.
I belive that they are working in a diferenet compandind standard. (A / u law)

There are others digitals phones models in the same module that works OK, like the 6408D+ and 6402D.

How I can fix it ?
The product ID of the phone is 108199027.

Thanks for any help.

RE: 4406D+ digital phones companding A/U law problem

If you are using a pri line, it might never work. The 4406 phones have been withdrawn for that reason here in Holland.

Try changing the A/Ulaw setting via the manager under system/telephony and see if this solves you problem.

Good luck

Arnoud

RE: 4406D+ digital phones companding A/U law problem

System-companding has to be set to u-law. If the system is in EU, the line-cmpanding most likely are a-law. This can only work if you have a Uni BRI line-module.

In that case, as mentioned above, set system-companding to u-law.

Does any know if there are any internal switch, or any phone
commands to change the companding law on the phones 4406 ?

I believe that this feature should be configurable.

Thanks,

Gustavo.

RE: 4406D+ digital phones companding A/U law problem

I believe that the 44XX serise phones have thier companding fixed, this i why avaa added the option to select different companding for internal modules & external lines.

Alaw lines (europe) can have either uLaw oa aLaw phones

44xx phones are ulaw only, 64xx (&20xx) phones can be either alaw or ulaw.

set system companding to ulaw & line to alaw & you should be fine

Thanks for your reply Mr. IPGuru.

But how I can set the line (ISDN E1 PRI) companding to Alaw, in which menu of the mananger is this options. ?

I only know to setup the A/U law in the System Configuration
-Telephony windows.

Thanks,

Gustavo

RE: 4406D+ digital phones companding A/U law problem

44xx phones are definately u-law only, therefore the IPO must be set to u-law under the system tab if you are going to use them.  This cannot be changed.  The 64xx are international phones, as mentioned they can support either companding.

RE: 4406D+ digital phones companding A/U law problem

As Dencom mentions, this can't be done when you have a PRI module. It's only when the line-module is a Uni BRI it's possible to use 44xx phones in EU.

Sorry...

RE: 4406D+ digital phones companding A/U law problem

the copmpanding setting is in the systemn tab.
as it is posible to leave the line set for aLaw & set the system for ulaw i would not think that pri lines should cause a problem
However as I have never tried this setup I would have to bow to nuggi's experiance

RE: 4406D+ digital phones companding A/U law problem

There is no companding setting in my PRI line form - but perhaps it's different for an E1 PRI?

Peter

RE: 4406D+ digital phones companding A/U law problem

peter it is not in the line form but in system/telephony

RE: 4406D+ digital phones companding A/U law problem

DOH!  I hadn't even noticed we have extra options there now!  Last time I bothered to look at that was months ago when I got a system here that was configured for european operation - and we still only had Alaw or Ulaw, not Alaw line and Ulaw line options as well.
