Increase Size of Picture

(OP)
Hi,
I have a .JPG file that's 213x140.  I want to increase the size of the picture.  However, when I increase it, the picture is all blurred or "pixelized" as alot of people call it.  How can I save my new .JPG file as a sharper image?  Oh, BTW, I'm completely new to Paint Shop Pro, and I've already tried the Effects / Sharper Image option, and it really didn't get it that much clearer?  Any ideas?

Thanks,
scripter73

RE: Increase Size of Picture

Without seeing your graphic and the problems, I'm guessing here!

Resizing a graphic always loses some of the original sharpness, but yours sounds a big loss ... more than I would expect from enlarging as it's reducing that usually causes the most problems.

I presume you've checked through the help information on 'Using the Resize Dialog Box' for chosing which is the best method.

You say you're saving as a .JPG.  Could it be that you're using too much compression when you save it?  It might be worth trying saving it in a  different format for comparison and to check if that's where the problem is.  I find .PCX usually gives a good result and a reasonably sized file.

If nothing here helps, I'll have another think.

RE: Increase Size of Picture

What resize type are you using? It's easier to let PSP choose the type by setting the resize type to Smart Size. You probably will not be able to enlarge the image without getting a serious loss in quality. As LittleRedHat mentioned, without seeing the image were just guessing.

RE: Increase Size of Picture

Hi Mike!

Love your web site.  As soon as I get chance I'm going for a thorough browse.  I've been with PSP since before it had a number, but I'm sure there's lots more that I can still learn from your tutorials. Thanks for all that work.

... and can I put a posting on the forum recommending it?  I'm sure loads of folk would find it very helpful.

Maureen

P.S.  Do you reckon that there's not much activity here on the PSP Forum because PSP's so good?

RE: Increase Size of Picture

Sorry Mike,

I should have phrased that differently as you've already posted information about your site ... can I add a highly recommended posting?

Whoops!!!
