Fun thing to do w/ VM Lite or PRO.

Fun thing to do w/ VM Lite or PRO.

Fun thing to do w/ VM Lite or PRO.

Ok, I have no idea how many people care about this, but I thought I'd post it anyway.

The Intuity interface is almost a direct copy of Audix.  I love that.  However, it says "Welcome to IP Office".

Well, I always thought that was a clumsy statement.  It doesn't really roll off the tounge, like "Welcome to Audix".

We've got about 10 MV s8100's.  If you're not familiar w/ the s8100, its Avaya's only (and soon to be retired) Windows-based PBX, Intuity Audix, and Announcement system.  It programs just like a definity, but the processor is a Windows-based PC housed on a TN2314 circuit pack.  Kind of cool.

Well, since its Windows-based, I was able to share the Hard Drive and access it with my work computer.  This was about a year ago.  I navigated around, basically exploring the structure of this hybrid PBX, and stumbled across all the Audix sound files in .lvp (Lucent Voice Player) format.  They, of course, don't play in windows so I asked this list how I can convert them.  Someone pointed me to a link on the Avaya website where I could download a player that also exports the files to .wav format.

Now, for those of you who work w/ IPO's voicemail (Lite or Pro), you know the sound files are in .wav format.  I was bored one day and listed to all of them, taking note of all the file names that made reference to "IP Office" in the announcement.  There are about 10 of them.  I then discovered the file names, which are numbered (ex: 241.wav) matched the Audix file names (ex: 00241.lvp).  I started converting the Audix files to .wav format and had to change them from 8-bit sound to 16-bit.  I discovered this by looking at the settings of one of the VM-Pro sound files.

I then renamed and replaced all the files in my notes.

Now, this is how my VM-Pro sounds:

"Welcome to Audix.  For help at any time press *H"
old: "Welcome to IP Office.  For help at any time press *H"

"As you use Audix, your name will be included in system announcements that you and other people will hear......"
old: "As you use IP Office, your name will be included in system announcements that you and other people will hear......."

Maybe a little anal, but I don't care.  I think its cool.  Besides, people are used to "Audix".  IP Office just brings up questions from nosy users.  Plus, I personally think it doesn't sound as professional (don't ask me why).

I figure, if I'm running it in "Intuity" mode anyway (which is derived from Audix), why not say what it really is.

Hope some of you find this useful.  The file names and descriptions are listed below.

Enjoy.

Kris G.

Oh, and if anyone actually wants to do this, you basically just replace the files (even while its running, if you like).  If anyone wants the converted files, you can e-mail me at kguntzelman at rlcarriers.com and I'll be happy to zip them up and send them on their way.

Interestingly enough these were exactly what the original release of VM Pro used, I never could work out why it was changed as the whole reason for intuity mode is to enable companys to equip smaller branches with the IPO without confusing their staff.

(I suspect some ammerican got upset & threatened to sue for misrepresentation  lol)

One of the sound files you can tell was clearly edited.  The pitch and speed of the phrase "IP Office" is way off from the rest of the sound file.  Its almost like they cut the name of the PBX from one of the other recordings and pasted it in there.

Maybe the Audix lady had a cold that day, but it was going to delay production if it wasn't recorded. :)
