Have very large Digital VAX print file formatted for lineprinters etc. Want software that opens file and uses
info in first line of each page to add barcodes and and
esc codes for tray selection etc. Can Crystal Reports be programmed to do this or are there any other packages out there that are programmable?

I don't know of canned software off hand that will do what you are after, but if you can't find anything I wouldn't think it would be all that difficult to write a program to do the page formatting that you require. Depending on the complexity of the formatting, probably very little PCL code would be needed. You would probably nedd an appropriate barcode font.

What formatting information is contained in the file at the head of each page?
