Help! Norstar CICS and Flash 2

Help! Norstar CICS and Flash 2

Help! Norstar CICS and Flash 2

Due to circumstances beyond my control, I've ended up being the "phone system guy" for the company.  I'm trying to install a Compact ICS 4.1 w/ a Flash 2 VM system.  It supports 4 lines from the CO and the Flash VM has 2 ports.

Here is the scenario:

Line 1 - incoming sales line
Line 2 - incoming sales line (centrex rollover from Line 1)
Line 3 - if both Line 1 & 2 are busy, it rolls over to Line 3, so the customer gets voicemail.
Line 4 - incoming/outgoing "hidden family & friends" line.
Line 5 - incoming/outgoing accounting/accounts payable vendor line

How in the heck do I set this up?  In my mind, I have it setup this way:

Line 1 - goes to Port 201
Line 2 - goes to Port 202
Line 3 - goes directly to Flash?
Line 4 - goes to Port 203
Line 5 - goes to Port 204

Does this work?  The boss doesn't want any Auto Attendant features.  With M7310 phones, I assume then that each desk will be able to access Line 1, 2, 4, & 5.  If a call on any of the lines goes unanswered, I assume that I can "put" it "into" an ICS port (say Port # 116) which is then connected into the other Flash 2 port?

Correct?  Hopeless?  Help!

RE: Help! Norstar CICS and Flash 2

First of all the port numbers don’t really matter. Second, you can only put 4 lines on your system, meaning you cannot have line 3 go to flash directly if you are using the other lines on the system. You need another line card, and unless you have a couple of weeks to mess around with this, I would recommend looking in the yellow pages for a norstar tech to install your system for you.

RE: Help! Norstar CICS and Flash 2

The CICS and Flash really shouldn't be set up that way!  I'm suggesting that since this software is 4.1 and has Hunt Groups available to it we should use it.  This is only my suggestion and you'll find that there are many cool ways to deal with your set up.  And others will suggest them.  My suggestion is very basic and incomplete but should give you a sound direction.

CICS Programming

1. I suggest that the Sales lines 01, 02 and 03 be in a Sales Hunt Group.  Let's say you make the Hunt Group number 1 and the Hunt Group extension to be 290.  Add all the sales telephones as it's members.  Then set the hunt group if busy setting to queue and the overflow extension to be that of the Flash DN(extension).

2. Have the lines 04 and 5(actually 5 is line 25) appear and ring on the appropriate telephones.  This will give those telephones in and out capablitiy on those lines, unless you decide on including them in Pool (A).

3. Build Pool Group (A) with lines 01, 02, 03 in it and a make a Pool Access Code, like 9.  Then give the the sales telephones line pool access to Pool (A) so they can dial out.  This let's them more efficiently use the lines.  A variation of that is to put add lines 04 and 25 in the Pool (A) also but you will have to determine that.

4.  For all your extensions with mailboxes enter programming and at Terminals&Sets/Capablities select Call Forward No Answer to be the extension of the Flash DN.  Note:Do not set Call forward on Busy.

Flash Programming (no automated attendant)

1. You will build and initilize a Hunt Group mailbox with it's extention being the Hunt Group extension 290.  This sales Mailbox will have it's own greeting.

2.  Build and initialize all the extension mailboxes.  They will each have their own personal greetings.

Good luck

RE: Help! Norstar CICS and Flash 2

I forgot to add this.  After I re-read your components that you would need an additional LS/DS card (line card) for your 025.  I thought you had it...sorry.

The basic set up is still similar though.

RE: Help! Norstar CICS and Flash 2

Actually B. Krike may have the best idea for your situation.  Having a Tech install and program it will save you in the long run.  I was interested in the problem but the best advice probably is to follow what he said.

RE: Help! Norstar CICS and Flash 2

Thank you RedHawkFla1 & B.Krike...

If we weren't moving in 1 week (and needing to get the system up on Monday/Tuesday) I'd be fine getting someone in here to set the thing up - just can't find anyone in the timeframe (of within the budget) in the Philly area.

That said, I can always get the Centrex forwarding off of Line 3 and re-task it elsewhere.  I can also get the additional LS/LD line card (I think I've seen them for around $250 or so - of course, I guess then I need to spring for the unrestricted software so that's another $1000.  sigh)

What happens when Sales 1 & Sales 2 (in their own hunt group are on the phone - I assume that a caller gets a busy signal - and no way to get into voicemail. Crap - that won't work.)

I assume that with the RedHawk scenario, I would attach the Flash 2 to Port 115 & Port 116?

argg.  If it only were'nt so obtuse in the manuals!  :)
Thanks again!

RE: Help! Norstar CICS and Flash 2

The Flash attaches to one station port. It usually is good form to make it the last ports available on the system but you don't have to.  You said it was a Flash 2 and so since each Norstar port has two channels(b1 & b2) you have a Flash 2.  But you are going to use up one and only one physical station port.  F985 shows the DN if you need it.  When the sales hunt group telephone members are busy any more calls to the hunt group will forward to the Flash, because of the Hunt Group Programming.  There is no busy signal.  Your Hunt Group Mailbox greeting plays, "We are sorry but all the Sales agents are busy..please leave a message and we'll get right back to you."  They leave a message.  And that's basically it.

Let me know how it goes.

RE: Help! Norstar CICS and Flash 2

Hey, also a note..... if you make your System a 2 digit extension system you will not have Hunt Groups available to it.  If you have 3 digit extension or more you will.  But the bottom line is that you can't have 2 digit DNs if you want Hunt Groups.  Hopefully this isn't an issue.
