I got my Avaya Phone to connect through the VPN, it takes its files from the HTTP server (code 200), takes the extension and password and even registers a license on the IPOffice system status- but it just hangs on "Connecting..." with a periodic "Retrieval successful" in the top corner...

Not sure where to go from here. The Avaya guy I asked wasn't sure- he hadn't seen that screen.

Any help or suggestions would be so very appreciated.

try unplugging the phone and then plugging it back in

LOL. Definitely did that.

It's never actually successfully worked remotely.

This is as far as I've gotten with it.

For a second it just says Phone in the top left and has arrows on the right, which aren't navigable then it goes back to "connecting"

Talking with a colleague, check your on the latest IP Office release. Apparently there were some issues around large MTU settings, especially with 9611s. If you are on the latest Service Pack for whichever IP Office release your using, then you may need to look in your VPN router logs to see if it is discarding packets or whether you can adjust the MTU limits it allows in various streams.

As an aside, you need to get a new "Avaya guy".

I had the Avaya guy verify I'm on the latest version of IPO.

I'm using a Sonicwall TZ300 as my VPN gateway and I don't see a way to adjust MTU settings.

I work remotely and my PC is connected to the same VPN config as the phone. I don't see any traffic getting dropped in the log...

What's funny is in the Sonicwall GroupVPN configuration, there's a little popup tooltip that says that particular setting is for Avaya IP phones LOL.

In the Sonicwall's VPN settings, try enabling Enable Fragementation and enable Ignore DF Bits if it has those settings or similar.

They're relativley cheap and easy to configure, they do general browsing and email etc security well, so IT men love them. But for anything real-time or more complex they're easily the worst firewall we encounter smile

It connects to the VPN great- even takes the license from IPOffice. Then just says Connecting...

At least when it was stuck in "discover" mode, I knew there were traffic settings that needed adjusted...

Not a huge fan of the Sonicwall. Definitely a bad call on my part. :-\

Sorry then. There used to be Avaya application notes for IP Office VPN phone connection using Sonicwall kit but most are based on TZ170. They turn up on a Google search so all I can suggest is to compare the TZ170 settings and see if they can be mapped onto TZ300 settings.
