Picked up a couple used IP500 v2 without SD cards so no software or licenses installed. One system is PCS03 and second is PCS19. I can't figure out what licenses to get. I've been reading many posts on this forum but still confused [ponder]

Please correct me if I am wrong, I understand if the box is used and has placed a call with a specific IP Office release, it is locked to that specific release it was running (e.g R8.0). So if I plug in a card with R9.1 and perform system upgrade through IP Office Admin, I would have to get both R9.1 upgrade and essential licenses?

If the system was new and never placed a phone call, I could just plug in freshly created a R9.1 card and order just Essential license for it?

If a used system didn't come with SD card or software, is there a way to find out which software it was running so I could get a SD card with matching IP Office release and not have to buy the upgrade license?

Finally, if I buy Essential or any other licenses online, would they provide me with Avaya sold to number so I could access service packs on Avaya's support site?

Thank you for your input!

Your understanding of the licensing is correct.
regarding your 2nd part of the question - you Dont but SD card with a specific firmware version on them you need to put the SD card into a PC & recreate with the required firmware release (OK they do ship with a reasonably current version but should still be recreated on site as this is usually not the current maintenance release).

recreate an SD card with the latest release & see if the units work, if not run the upgrade wizard & that will show you the current licence on the system & the licence req.

Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

The PCS03 system would need a step upgrade to get to 9.1 or 10. You would need to load 9.0 first and then load 9.1. It is possible this has already been done but natively the older PCS control units need this to get to 9.1 or higher.

As IPGuru stated you should recreate the SD card with the newest release of the version you want to run (9.1.11 or 10.0.4). Everything is tied to the SD card license wise EXCEPT the control unit being locked into a version. The SD card can be recreated on any version you like and the control unit will run it but if you need an essential edition license and/or upgrade license the phones will say unlicensed and not work.

As for a new control unit and a 9.1 SD card that is exactly corrrect just need an essential edition license and you are good to go if the control unit is new and never been locked in.

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.

Thank you all for your input. This helps a lot.
