Hi,
I am trying to install Zenworks for desktops 4.01 but when it says "Select Target Server" it displays my tree but it doesn't show my server :( so i cannoy install it.

I am trying to run the installation on a Windows 2000 Domain Controller with SP 4 which has the Novell Client Installed.

The Netware Server is in it's own tree.

I don't know if this matters but in the novell client if i click "Browse" it wont find my tree i have to manually enter its name.
I believe i correctly configured SLP.

Any help greatly appreciated,

Many Thanks,

Chris

Not sure if I'm clear where you're losing it at. You select your tree, then click NEXT, then you click which services you want. Then Next. Then you have a target server page where you have an "Add Server" button... Do you get that? And when you click on that, can you browse your tree and find your server in the context where it resides..

Also, are you logged in and have drives mapped to the server?

Hi Marvin,

I click next to enter the "Target Server" page, i have buttons like "Add All Servers" i can see the name of my tree, but when i click it nothing happens no Servers appear.

I am logged in on the Netware Server and also through the Novell Client on the Windows 2000 DC and the drives are mapped.

I don't know if this is related, but say in the Novell Client at logon where u can browse for the tree mostly it won't let me browse for the tree i have to manually enter it.

Thanks for your help.

Chris.

Sorry to clarify that last scentence it won't let me browse for a tree, but once i manually enter one i am allowed to Browse for a Server and Context.

Hi,

Are you running netware 6.5 ?

If I remember correctly it is not supported and it won't install to it, you need 6.0.

This sounds like the behavior it does.

Tami

Hi Tami,

Yes i am running Novell Netware 6.5 with Support Pack 1.1.

I've heard a few people mention that, but when i asked on the Novell Forums they said it would work....this is really confusing.lol

I miss good old Windows!

Thanks,

Chris.

Honestly I can't think of a reason why it wouldn't work on NW6.5. That makes no sense. It sounds more like you're having a problem locating services. The fact that you're running it on a W2K Advanced Server makes me even more suspicious. What protocols are you running on the NW6.5 server, and what do you have on your workstation. Also, what version of the Novell client are you using?

Also, why don't you try installing it from a WinXP or W2K Pro system instead?

We ran into the same issue when were doing the install as well and according to Novell, it is not support by 6.5 yet.

Not trying to argue here, but I can install it just fine on 6.5. The install finds the server just find and even recognizes it as a 6.5 server.

Again, because of the other problems that were noted, I think there is a problem with the communication between Server and the workstation, or in this case the W2K server. You need to verify that you are able to browse the tree, access files, etc correctly first. Then try to install.

Try some tests.. Can you run NWADMIN and see all the tree without errors? Can you map a drive by it's name, ie: server\sys? Can you ping the server by name? Are you using IP only? or both IP and IPX. If IP only, do you have SLP setup or other ways for workstation to find the server?

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all your help.

I am able to browse, map a network drive open files everything as expected on Netware 6.5, I have configured SLP as it is IP only also.

I did notice a problem yesterday where in NWADMIN it was saying that my server was accepting "Grace Logins" could this be a reason why it is not allowing me to see the server?

I tried to configure IManager so i can add new licenses but that wouldn't work, so i have removed the Apache Server, and about to re-install it now.
(I was just clutching at straws).

Would i be best to get a copy of Netware 6, is that still available to download from Novell?

Thanks,

Chris.

If your licensing is not configured, that will definitely cause problems.

Don't try to reinstall anything, you're not dealing with MS here. Installing licensing is easy in NWADMIN. Pain in the butt in iManager.
