Your Current Backup System For Home PC??

Hello,

I was just wondering what type of backup systems everyone has setup on their home PCs. What type of software/hardware are you using??

I thought it would be cool to see how everyone has their backup systems setup.

I'll start with my backup system first:

Hardware: I have an external USB WD My Book Premium 250GB hard drive.

Software: I use Acronis True Image 9.0 Enterprise Server.

Schedule: I usually do a backup bi-weekly on Tuesday morning around 3:00AM. Incremental Backup.

Comments: This system has been in place for 2 years now it did save my life one time when my internal hard drive failed. Good thing I had this set up. Haven't had a problem with this backup system failing thus far.

A $700 program for a home computer??? Must be nice. I use the $30 home version, and two USB HDDs, swapped weeekly, one stays with me at all times.

I too use Acronis True Image 9.0 (home version) along with an external USB hard drive, and weekly backups. And it has saved my butt once so far, which more than saved the cost of those two components. I restored the contents of my 40-GB hard drive in about 15 minutes, and I was back up and running! Acronis True Image is a very slick program.

i use true image too, so i have nothing to add to your words. but i have a question for Olimits7, how many computers do you have at home? coz this TI enterprize server used when you have a big amount of computers joined in net, it's a bit strange using it only for one home computer, in this case i'd recomended to use workstation version.

I use Acronics True Image Server for my backups on to 600 gbyte usb drive array, saved my neck many times. sett up for automatic incremental backup at 4am every day.

I use NTI drivebackup to make a recovery dvd and backup now for incremental backups. This really works. I can restore quickly. Its also so simple to use I have my kids backing up there systems. It works with cd/dvd's network storage and more. check it out here.

I use to use ghost and mybackup from stomp. I have tied Acronics but found it wanted to put the image on unused part of my harddrive. I wanted restore dvd's that could be put in and rebooted and get everything back quickly. It also didn't support direct backups to cd/dvd. What good is backing up to the harddrive when it goes bad you loose it all. I don't have external drives so I need to make more portable backups.

I usually do a PowerQuest drive image and burn it to DVD.

Currently using Brightstor to backup to a HP ultrium library. Not as quick as hdd backups but the duplication off-site capabilities suit me gr8.

I back up my data once a year on 25 pack of DVD-R's. Then I wipe out my system and do a fresh install. It's like getting a new computer every year.

It seems like after a year of "computing" my computer starts running a little slow. The drive needs defragged, I've programs that I had downloaded and never used. It just becomes cluttered. Why would I want to make a back up image of that? So I spend a Sunday afternoon burning the important stuff to DVD and reformat and reinstall.

No more clutter!

I just use Nero BackItUP, part of Nero Ultra 6. I then burn to DVD-RWs.

My main PC (the one I care about) has twin disks, with an image of the "data" drive also on "C".

Storage is cheep enough for space to no longer be an issue. But then I rember thinking “how will I ever fill a whole CD?” I now need a stack of compressed DVDs

I use some freebie software (SyncBack) to sync all my data partitions nightly (through scheduled tasks) to a wireless Buffalo 300gb Home Media Server and then to a separate USB hard drive.

The first SyncBack run took some time to complete as it had to transfer about 60gb of data (twice). Average sync time is now approximately 2 minutes per partition.
