I just installed XP2 on Windows XP Pro, SP1. The link to the dial up connection does nothing when it's clicked. Using the control panel to access network connections will eventually open the network connections window, but it is empty. In Administrative tools under services I find that Network Connections is stopped. Attempting to start it only brings up this message, "Could not start the Network Connection service on local computer. Error 126: The specified module could not be found."
In the Control Panel I tried to access the Windows Firewall and received this message, "Windows Firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running. Do you want to start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) Service?" I click "yes" and am told, "Windows cannot start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) Service.
In spite of the above dilemma, I can connect to my ISP when using Rascal Pro, a software program I've been using for about a decade. When I discovered that I could connect to the internet the first thing I did was install all of the updates provided by Microsoft in hopes that the problems would be solved by the updates. They were not, so I have come to this forum seeking the able assistance I have always found here.
When running windows in safe mode the problems remain. Any and all suggestions will be most appreciated.
