Here is a wierd one,

I am trying to do an xp workgroup. I am using an xp machine for data access. When I try to mapp into the xp computer from another xp machine using run. It will prompt me for only a password. The user name I cannot change. The user name is the guest account. I have enabled the guest account. Now I am able to change the user but I want to have the guest account disabled. Without the guest account being enabled it wont work. What should I do?

Thanks,

Set up identical users on both machines. Since you are not using a domain, they only have themselves to authenticate to.

I don't want to have the guest account enabled. In order for me to have access the guest account has to be enable no matter what user I create. This is very wierd.

Alright,

I do have simple file sharing on and I have the guest account disable. Why is it that I cannot loggin with the local user I have created?

See what you have set in Group Policy.

Computer Configuration / Windoss Settings / Security Settings / Local Policies / User Rights Assignments

Have a look at these type of settings and set them to your needs.

Access this computer from the network
Deny access to this computer from the Network
