XP won't load colour setting

Hey...

I'm having hassles with XP not loading my prefered colour settings...

I've just installed a new flat screen DVI monitor - I've set up my colour / sontrast etc setting in XP (via Start > Control Panel > Display > Settings > Advance) and hit apply, then ok.

But when I restart my computer seconds after this profile loads, the settings revert to a mystery one with shades etc brighter than what I wanted. If I go via Start > Control Panel > Display > Settings > Advance, my prefered setting is there and if I hit the button, it restores itself - until the next time I boot or sawp user accounts...

Any ideas please..? Thank you in advance!

It will depend on the hardware. I have an ATI All-in-Wonder video card. When I reach the advanced settings screen, I have several tabbed selections. One of these is 'Color Management'. I can select a color profile to use, and the screen has a button marked 'Set as Default'.

I'm not saying you have the same driver, but the answer will vary depending on the driver.

XP uses the color and other display attributes of its DEFAULT state (the state it is in while waiting for a logon).

My thinking is that somewhere as XP transitions between its DEFAULT settings and the logon user settings there is a failure to reset the adapter; which is cured by forcing the adapter reset in Display, Properties, Advanced.

If this thinking is true, there are two opportunities to explore:

. Change the DEFAULT state display settings to match the loggged on state settings. This would be done in the registry under HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\ControlPanel\Colors by modifying these entries with the settings of a "working" user account (defined by its SID).

. or, as I suggested above, use a utility at logon that would automaticly force the display reset. See my two links above.

Hey guys...

Thank you very much for your responses - I think I may have sussed it with your help.

I noticed Adobe Gamma was loading on start up (as it had been with my old monitor) and it fiddling with the contrast / colour / brightness was more noticble on my new TFT than my old CRT monitor...
