I recently had a nasty bout with a virus and a ton of spyware that got passed my firewall. I cleaned it all up but in the midst of things I think it 'cleaned' (deleted) a file or files that have to do with the standby option in XP. Right after I cleaned up my computer the standby option is now greyed out. I've look all over control panel and everything but it looks like it's a file thing.

Anyone know where/how I can restore these possibly missing files? System restore is not an option to me.

Thanks.

Couple of options open to you.

To make sure that all your main system files are Ok you can click on Start, then Run, type sfc /scannow

It may be due to a Mainboard/Display Driver issue. Download EVEREST Home Edition:

Use it to detect the devices on your machine and visit the manufacturers site to download the latest driver sets.
