Hi All,

I have setup a VPN here for all my sales people to use when outside the network. All the win9X clients seem to be running fine. However all of my XP clients are having problems.

On XP the VPN client runs fine, and seems to connect but it does not give the choice of "Logon to Microsoft Network". Therefore I cannot run any logon scripts for these clients, and cannot ping through netbios name. No HUGE problem, as I thought I setup LmHost fils, and could run a batch file locally to map the drives, as I have connectivity (Tested through pinging). WRONG!!..I cannot map to anything!!! I can ping fine to any IP address on my network, but cannot resolve netbios.

Has anyone seen this before in XP...am I missing something?

TIA for any help

HI.

W2K and XP go to DNS/HOSTS first, then to WINS/LMHOSTS, so this might be causing the difference.

Some options:

On the XP, try to use HOSTS in addition or instead of LMHOSTS.

Or supply the internal DNS server or your LAN to VPN clients.

Try to map drives using ip addresses:
NET USE X: \\A.B.C.D\SHARE

Use FTP or HTTP for VPN clients to access company data - it might work better then MS file sharing in a VPN scenario.

Bye
