Does anyone know of a simple and inexpensive way to manage USB devices? I know that Vista now appears to have this build it and assuming it's managed in Vista via GP's, I wondered if it would be possible to uses these GP's in XP. Has anyone played around this?

Regards,

John

I use a piece of inexpensive software called DeviceLock. It's simple and effective as both stand alone or networked and can be setup using GPs. It allows control of CD/DVD writers, bluetooth, HDD, to name but a few as well as USB.

We are in the process of purchasing DeviceLock. Out of all the software out there, DeviceLock was the cheapest that offered blocking and managing all external devices via GPO. So far we like the software.

Cheers
Rob

Thanks everyone,

DeviceLock is probably the best known but I hate spending money to cover-up Microsoft stupid shortfalls - they should be hung, drawn and quartered for these sorts of mistakes.

Has anyone upgraded their Win 2K3 Server ADM files with the ADM files that come with Vista and tried the USB device controls with XP?

Some of the new XP ADM files that were designed for XP also worked on Win 2K, so there maybe hope. I just haven't got the luxury of a test rig to try it.

Regards,

John
