Hail,

It's really weird, on my XP pro machine, when I try accessing a shared folder of another computer through RUN and typing IP\ShareName, it just hangs there for a long period of time before it opens up the shared folder (that is called UNC right?). Anyway, what's even more weird is if I launch run again and retype in same name, it will open right away!!!
Any ideas?

It appears it maybe saving the path in some form of cached area just like a web server does. If you attempt to access a wesite that your server has never seen it takes forever. There is probably a document somewhere that remembers how to get to a location.

If anyone calls and says "I know a little something about computers" just tell them to reformat it.

Thats normal...the first time you connect to it, The system has to be contacted and authenticated to, the second time you do it your already authenticated so its much faster to reconnect.

Sorry what I meant by second time is while first time is still loading. It's not the first time I connect to the drive and it shouldn't take up to 15 mins to connect right? This is my second XP machine and both did this. I access folders on the network all the time, this is very annoying...

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RemoteComputer\NameSpace

Delete the printers and scheduled tasks keys under this key.

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion but I'm still having the problem after removing the keys even after rebooting...
