XP Registration Wizard being difficult!

Hey All,
I have a new Micron transport t1000 laptop with XP Pro.
I loaded publisher 2000 today and then went to run it.
I now get a message box asking me if I want to register with Microsoft. When I click NO, Publisher closes. When I click YES I get a message saying "The registration Wizard cannot run because the system information it needs is either unavailable or incorrect" When I click OK the box dissappears. I am on a domain, I logged on in every way I could think of administrator, domain, local admin. And I can't get this dumb thing to work. Any advice would be appreciated.
