I have upgraded my XP pc at home to SP2 and everything appears fine -- except. When I insert a USB flash memory card into the USB port, the pc will shutdown immediately. It does not go through the shutdown process -- it just shuts down! Oddly enough, before SP2 everything worked just fine -- I could insert and remove the flash memory card with no problem.

Help!

Try the following:

Click on Start > Right Click On My Computer > Click on the Advanced Tab > Click on the Settings button under the "Startup and Recovery" heading > Untick Automatically Restart > Click ok > Click ok

Now when you insert the Flash memory it should show you a blue screen, instead or restarting or shutting down.

Let us know what that error is and we should be able to help you further.

I will. Thank you for your response.

Are you saying it just does a Shutdown without restarting, leaving you to manually restart the machine?

Do check your Event Viewer logs for any extra information.

I have tried the Automatic Restart option and got a new error. It now beeps and gives a page-fault error.

In regards to linney, the pc literally reboots on its own.

Yeah it should give you an error now instead of just rebooting.. that's normal when you change that setting.

What is the error code it gives you now?

It gives a physical memory dump and then gives a blue backgrounded, w/white lettered screened. At this screen, I get a heading saying Page Fault in Non Paged Area.

I also have this problem and am waiting for a response on thread 779-1022430 The machines that I have problems on are not SP2
