I was trying to make my Blackberry work as a modem so I installed the Cingular Connection program. When that didn't work, I uninstalled it. Now, in Device Manager under Network Adapters, RAS Async Adapter is listed with an exclamation point (error code 31).

You cannot uninstall the RAS Async adapter because XP says it is required for bootup. I have tried using Microsoft RAREPAIR.exe tool with no luck, as well a WinSockXP. Ethernet/wireless working OK but no dialup (laptop computer).

To see this driver on a working computer, choose "Show Hidden Devices" in Device Manager. Please Help!

Philip,

That RAS Adapter is used for remote access through a dial up connection. Based on some quick research, some people just ignored it without it creating any further problems and others reinstalled the adapter which can be done though the link below. I would suggest updating or reinstalling the driver and see if that corrects the problem. Let us know.

You know, I have tried that too (I've even hit that exact site). However, when you go to that site, it does not auto-download. The "Mirrors" point to Microsoft's Windows Update and Microsoft's Home Page, both of which are useless.

If you can find a site that actually lets you download the adapter, that would be great.

Fixed my own problem - after much grief.

Went to Classes in Current Control Set, deleted RAS Async entries.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002bE10318}

Rebooted - RAS async exclamation. Brought up Device Manager to display hidden devices. Found a RAS Async #2.

Start->Run->CMD
SET DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1
START DEVMGMT.MSC

Chose Update Driver - everything is working. I posted this for everyone else out there with RAS ASync errors or DUN error 633's.
