XP Pro will not run exe file on flash drive

I have a password protected flash drive that will not work with only 1 computer. When I plug the drive into other computers they read the bat or exe file and run the password software just fine. When I plug it into the one computer the drive registers in my computer but when you click on it all you get is the "insert drive" message. All computers are running the same versions of XP Pro with SP2. I figure there is something preventing an executable file from running on the usb port but don't know where to look.

Any assistance is most appreciated.

You figure wrong...

if the drive gets recognized and you get the INSERT DISK message, it means that it can't read the correct information from the USB ports...

this is due to either a bad USB PORT, or bad drivers (corrupt)...

1. Try any other USB ports, like the ones in the back or vice versa... drive may not be getting enough power on the front ports...

2. uninstall all references of the USB ports and HUBs in the Device Manager and reboot, let Windows reinstall them... alternatively update your Chip Set drivers as they usually contain updated USB drivers for the mainboard as well...

Oops, I should have mentioned that it will read any other flash drive just fine. It is only this one that needs to autorun the password program that won't run.

Have you tried it on other USB ports or even over a USB HUB?

I've tried it on other computers built and configured identically and it works fine. I tried it on the rear ports of this computer and it doesn't work. I'm using the front ports. Other non security drives work fine on this computer.

Is there some security something like I was guessing that would prevent an executable from running on a usb drive?

There are Windows Updates floating around that Disable Auto Runs. There are Registry Settings, Tweaks, and Group Policy Settings that do the same.

What is the extension of the file that should run automatically, is it an Autorun.inf file?

Well, for that even to happen, the drive needs to be READABLE, and from what you describe it is NOT a preventive measure, but rather a driver or an ENCRYPTION issue which prevents the reading of the drive...

it just may be that the USB Stick is encrypted, and that the decryption software is not installed on the said computer, thus preventing the mounting of the stick, which of course prevents reading the contents...

see if there is any encryption software, e.g. TrueCrypt, are installed on the other PC's and not on the target PC...

Sorry for the delay in getting back. I've been away from the office.

The drive is a "Kingston DataTraveler Elite Privacy" model. It uses DTE Launcher program to open the drive. When I plug the drive in any other computer it asks for the password then creates a new drive letter for the contents. Ie: Drive F: will be named DTE Launcher with the launcher program (.exe) on it and it creates drive G: which has the data.

When I plug it into the problem computer the flash screen on the lower right says it recognizes the Kingston drive but when you click on the drive letter in My Computer is says "Please Insert Disk in Drive F:".

I'll keep tinkering with it and post the solution if I ever find it! Thanks

Are there other drives on this machine, perhaps Mapped Drives that also have been assigned a Drive Letter of "F"?

When the fault is occurring what is showing in Disk Management.
