XP Pro to XP Home security

I now have a new pc with XP home, but my old computer was XP pro.

I am using my old hard drive as a slave (but the OS does not work)

I am trying to get all my files from my user within the old hard drive. I know where all the files are stored, but now that i'm using XP home it telling me that i do not have permission to go into the folders that i need.

Is there any way around this... as i do have a lot of stuff that i can not afford to lose.

Ensure:
1) Both hard disks are using a NTFS
2) None of the files are encrypted

Then try:
Creating one common account, on each of the OS. Containing a identical username and password. This should give u the permissions to go between the accounts.

If not:
Try downloading a Boot-CD from

http://www.knoppix.org/

Then use the file manager on the CD to copy the files over.
I use this method, works a treat for me all the time

This doesn't answer your question but if you still have the windows xp pro cd, I would use that OS instead of home edition.

I concur with "Smah's" suggestion of taking ownership of the files, and "jshurst's" suggestion of installing PRO in place of Home (if it has been completely removed from any other machine, and is not an OEM version that came pre-installed on that other machine).

The Security tab is available from Safe Mode in XP Home (but see below).
