XP Pro SP2 Slowing Down Network Applications

Hello all. I've been having a lot of grief with an issue and I'm wondering if any of you can help.

I have recently deployed 20 computers with Windows XP Pro SP2 original install CD. Immediately after install, it has slowed down our Delphi/SQL network application to at least 5 times slower. Each command fucntion that is performed, eg: double click, typing etc, is sending lots of traffic onto the network. On a SP1 machine, everything is blazing fast. I read an article and it claims that XP SP2's security features is the cause of this problem:

Would anybody know how this problem can be fixed? No I cannot uninstall SP2 because it is part of the install CD.

It is possible you are hitting against the connection limit imposed in SP2.
