hi all,

I have XP pro with Service Pack 2. But, even after checking 'Classic' on every option I can find, some icons still look different than they do on my XP Pro SP 2 PC at work.

for example - My home pc has 'Turn Off Computer' whereas the office pc has 'Shutdown'.

This is not a big deal but I am curious as to why 2 computers with the same OS and SP level have a different appearance.

Have I missed a setting to be able to get the full Classic appearance?

thanks, John

I think it's related to whether you use the Welcome Screen or not.

You can turn off the welcome screen from Control Panel > User Accounts > Change the way users log on or off

Basically that depends on how you log onto the machine. I would guess at work you use a network and/or domain login whcih gives you the "Shutdown" option instead of the "Turn Off".

Ignorance is not necessarily Bliss, case in point:
Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.

Also, is your home pc, XP home?

You have different functions on the Home edition than you do on Pro, including, log out and log in.

Stu he does say he has XP Pro on both machines, My first thought was, good thing he not trying this with Vista!

'Make Vista look (a bit) like an earlier version of Windows' (which one? thats anyone guess)

Playing the blues isn't about feeling better. It's about making other people feel worse.

Disabling the Theme Service is another thing you can do.

Thanks to everyone. Yes, the User Account-->logon option is what I needed - I unchecked "Use the Welcome Screen"

"My first thought was, good thing he's not trying this with Vista!" Yeah, I plan to delay that fun for as long as I can.
