I had a motherboard fry that has left XP Pro corrupted. Have been able to get data off but unable to boot the disk directly. Decided to do a repair rather than a re-install due to some complicated third party application set-ups that were a problem to get right originally.

Repair ran fine - all the way to 'Saving Settings' and about 2 minutes on the clock to go and then screen went black and machine re-booted. It started the install again automatically ran through the same install and re-booted at the same point. When you run windows it senses that the install has not completed so restarts.... Checked the error log and the same error repeated.

Setup could not register the OLE Control C:\WINDOWS\system32\macromed\flash\flash.ocx because of the following error:
DllRegisterServer returned error 2147647516 (8002801c).

Any ideas what I should do to get around this problem ? Is it possible that the flash.ocx is not part of a normal install and therefore possible I could delete the file / folder ?

Your help would be appreciated.

You could see if you can load (after creating) the BartPE bootable CD and delete the files in this folder, C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash? Then you could let Setup restart and have another go at it. Other than that you can use BartPE to save your data to other media such as USB, and then do a clean install.

BartPE (a mini XP self contained on a bootable CD and run from CD).

Recovery Console is a slightly more difficult option because of the interruption occurring from Setup which is your default operating system at the moment, you would probably have to edit, (and then later undo any edit), the boot.ini file to bypass Setup if you were thinking of using the Recovery Console.
