I am running XP Pro with SP2. Sometime after activating XP after the install, I installed a new video card and changed the zip drive from a 100 to a 250. Nothing happened as far as Microsoft detecting changes and making me reactivate. About 2 months later, I changed an internal PCI modem and when I did, I got this icon to reactivate and it gave me three days to do so.

I reactivated online and it asked for my email address and I typed it in and it said activated and now all is good.

I am asking how this works and is that all one has to do to reactivate, type in their email address?

I am not sure about the Email requirement was that some part of Registration with Microsoft as opposed to Activation?

Changing a NIC causes the product to become "de-activated"
