I have 1Gbte RAM installed and , when I attempt to start PC after having used " Hibernate" on a previous shut-down , the machine hangs before getting to the WIndows screen.

When I then select the RESET switch I get a message in the black "DOS" screen which says :- " Delete restoration data and proceed to system boot start " . This gets the machine to boot into Windows normally.

Can anyone tell me what causes this and what must I do to get a normal restoration after "Hibernation" , please ?

The following might suggest a problem with a corrupted hiberfil.sys file that could be easily replaced.

"Hello,
To get out of the hibernation state, boot to recovery console and delete the hiberfil.sys file.

Then reboot normally.

NTLDR looks at the hiberfil.sys file to determine whether on boot it needs to be loaded or not. If that file is not present, it will boot normally and create a new file for the next hibernation attempt.
Thanks,"

HOW TO: Install and Use the Recovery Console for Windows XP (Q307654)

It wont hurt to check your Event Viewer to see if any application error mentions "hang".

didn't microsoft release a patch some time ago specifically for PCs that hybernate with ram>=1GB? the problem was similar to yours, so's you pc updated?
