I am running PC Tools Antivirus which is not reporting any infections.

Every time I shut off the machine, Microsoft asks me if I want to update and I say yes. This happens two and three times a day.

Also, when I tried to run a Trend Micro Online Scan and also a Kapersky Online Scan, when I start it, the browser (Firefox and IE) shut down.

How can I get rid of this virus?

If you need any other info, please let me know. Thanks.

If I run netsh winsock reset catalog, then I will have to reinstall these LSPs (per Microsoft Knowledge Base).
No, because the command resets those LSP's back to the factory settings (e.g. Windows XP settings as they are in a fresh install)...

I have automatic updates and I got a message that these updates could not be installed.

Does anyone know why?

Also, how could I get these updates to install?

I looked at the thread you cited and also looked at the one above.

I followed the one above and it worked.

Ben, I really appreciate the help you've given me.

A bit late, but sometimes the most recent update causes the problem. Try uninstalling them and restarting. They can always be reinstalled.

Hi!

Just a tip: i use Dial-A-Fix to solve update and internet explorer connection isues. they are, to my experience, usualy caused by dll's being registred wrong.

i guess it's what you call a quick-fix!:-))
