I've got a home built machine with ECS motherboard. It began constantly rebooting. I started in Safe Mode and it stayed on.

I rebooted with "Last Know Good Configuration", and several devices had the yellow ! in device manager with the message

"A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)"

I uninstalled all these devices and all but on reinstalled fine on reboot. The TDK DVDRW0404N dvd/cd writer remains disabled.

I even shutdown, disconnected the drive, rebooted without it and then added it again. I can't find an updated driver on the web for the drive.

thanks for any advice.

Have you tried the native windows driver instead of the TDK driver?
Seeing as they run on firmware (as i guess your updated driver thing makes reference to) have you searched for updated firmware?

do you have another machine with same os you could test drive?

Thanks for the responses. I tested the drive and it is working. Windows could not find an alternate driver. On a whim, I tried uninstalling Roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator and upon reboot, the drive installed properly. This is not the first time I have had problems with Roxio software.

thanks

Roxio seem to have a history of slightly off products, but ive got stuck in my ways and now stay with nero im on version 6.3.0.3 and its brilliant and quite cheap.
If you buy a new burner like i did that cost under 30quid i got the software free!!!! Which was cheaper than buying it from Nero.
Roxio however are used in the winows native burner i think im sure someone can confirm this, i couldnt see which OS you were on,.
