Anyone having a problem where XP Pro is adding user profiles for existing users each time they log in? It uses the user's name and adds a dot plus three number extension to it, such as JDOE.000, JDOE.001.
This causes the profile to look like the default user's and for most end users, it throws them for a loop since their apps and documents appear to be gone.
I have deleted the additional users but they come back. I have copied the user's profile to the Default User so that all subsequent users will get those settings. This works most of the time, but not all of the time.
What is causing this and is there a known fix? Microsoft's Knowlegebase did not indicate anything.

Thanks,

this means in most cases that the user profile has been corrupted in some way , so windows decides to recreate the profile

greetz,

It is happening in epidemic proportions across our network. We are running Novell 5.1x if that has anything to do with it.
What a headache!

I have seen some virus's do similar things with the exception of the new profile having vulgar words in it. Might want to try running stinger or an equivilant if you havn't already.

This is a great tool and there is a lot of valuable information in the README file.

Thanks a million Linney!
