All I’m trying to do is simple printer sharing of a printer on some XP Pro PC's. Though it looks easy enough, I can't get it to work consistently. Of the several XP I have, I can only share one or two, but only for certain users, if there is a blue moon, and the water level doesn't get too high.

Even though I want everyone to print to it, I have to create a user account on the host PC? gee that's dumb.

I can't find any config differences between the PC's that work and the once that don't.

What am I missing hear? I've read several how-to docs, and the XP boxes are patched.

Thanks

You need to explain what you've done before we can try to say what you're missing!

I have file and print sharing enabled, and I did the following:

1. Under the sharing tab, selected "share this printer" and gave it a name.

2. Under the security tab, granted rights to everyone, administrator.

3. After finding users did not have access to this PC, I added the users. which still doen's work.

4. I also added the print drivers to the shared printer.

NOTE: There are no passwords to access the share. The same as the client PC's

Thanks again

Under Network Connections, TCP/IP Properties, Advanced, WINS tab, enable Netbios over TCP/IP. Reboot.

The XP workstation and printer should now appear under Network Neighborhood for all the other computers. If not, please advise.

Thanks bcastner, I did what you instructed, but I still get access denied.

Anything else I can try?

i wouldnt recomend using file and printer sharing becouse it gives hackers easy access through to your computer(trust me cus ive done it before and all you need is ms dos and telnet).
