Utilizing XP Pro & Outlook Express 6.0,have an issue surrounding the identies and passwords associated in the dial up settings/connections dialog box. Orignal password was forgotten. Reset password but the old password entry for the dialup settings/connections retains the old password entry, ex:**************** 16 characters. I have to manually enter the new 12 character password to connect but somehow this does not become the static entry. How can I remove this older invalid password entry from the registry so that the new one will display as the default?

Asterisk length.

This is designed to protect user accounts from attack by preventing a potential hacker from knowing the length of the user's password.

Password Length Appears Changed in Windows 2000 Dial-up Networking Connection Manager

This might be worth a try if the above is not your problem.

This fix also applies to Outlook, other programs that store passwords in the Protected Storage System Provider sub branch of the Registry. It also corrects some issues with Internet Explorer and Autocomplete.

Under Windows XP Tips look for Outlook Express does not save passwords.
