I have a Dell xp home machine that shuts off intermittently. I’ve seen this when a fan has either failed or if the case is packed with dust. The machine is relatively dust-free and the fan looks to be working fine. The only thing I can think of is the power supply may have some issues, or maybe the HD is in the process of going. Any ideas on other potential causes would be great.
Thanks

I'd swap out the power supply first, it is the most likely culprit.

Carlsberg don't run I.T departments, but if they did they'd probably be more fun.

Since you are asking about other possibilities you should also consider overheating. i agree in this case it is most likely the PS but there is the chance of overheating, same symptom.
