XP Loaded but won't start xcpt in Safe Mode

I just loaded XP Pro onto a new system with an Athlon 2500 chip & compatible mbd, GeForce 5200 Vcard, 512 mhz of 400 mhz ddr ram and windows will only load into safe mode. In fact, since the first load, device manager is blank. Ideas?

Make sure the Plug and Play Service is started and running.

What did the Compatibility checking software say when you installed XP?

Some general things to try.


Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows itself by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.
