I am pretty sure if memory serves that there is no anti-irus setting. I originally bought the unit as a barebone systems (came with mobo and processor) and the motherboard was from an HP system.
Other than that - sound like the dreaded 'hardware' problem (ie, could be anything - need to start eliminating suspects - eg, memory is a good place to start).
You can use the Microsoft Windows XP Upgrade Advisor tool to audit the current status of your computer and get a report of known hardware and software compatibility issues (based on Microsoft testing before release).
Upgrade the Computer BIOS.
Before you start the install process, obtain and install the latest basic input output system (BIOS) upgrade for your computer from the computer manufacturer. If no Bios update is available set bios to original defaults. Make sure any Bios anti virus scanner is disabled.
If you've got USB devices, unplug them until you're done with the initial install, then plug them in and install them once the system is up and running.
There might be some help in these.

If you suspect a problem with your new hardrive, you could check it out via free diagnostic software from the manufacturer's site. If it fails they will replace it for you.
