XP INSTALL ON DELL LATITUDE CP

TRYING TO PUT XP ON MY LATITUDE,, AFTER XP DOES THE FIRST REBOOT, GET THE ERROR "CANT FIND CDROM.SYS" ABORTING INSTALL,,, THEN I KEEP GETTING A REBOOT THAT GIVES THE 1=CONTINUE XP INSTALL 2= CANCEL XP INSTALL,,

ANY IDEAS ? TRIED THE 6 FLOPPY DISK TYPE SETUP AND IT DOESNT WORK EITHER SINCE I HAVE TO BOOT TO FLOPPY,, THEN THE CD DRIVERS DONT INSTALL BECAUSE IT IS NOT IN THE BAY..

OK, GAVE UP ON THE XP INSTALL, BUT NOW I STILL GET A BOOT TO XP OR WIN 98 CHOICE THAT I HAVE TO MAKE AT STARTUP,, ANY IDEAS ON HOW TO GO AHEAD AND INSTALL XP ? OR HOW TO GET RID OF THE BOOT CHOICE ON START UP ?
SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP,, I HAVE XP ON MY 2 DESKTOPS AND IT IS GREAT, WOULD REALLY LIKE TO PUT IT ON MY LAPTOP,

One idea I read in the above links was to copy your XP CD to hard drive and try installing XP from there. You can just use a windows 98 startup disk and go to the i386 folder and start the program winnt.exe (instead of using the 6 disks)


To remove the boot option screen you might have to edit the boot.ini file.
 
well, I managed to make a boot disk from boot.com and have xp up and running now,,
