XP HOME - Workgroup problem

Okay, I would like to be able to restrict access to a workgroup (if this is possible). I'm at a university and so all computers are on the same lan. Is this possible or would I have to set up a domain (if I can)? If I have to set up a domain, then can I just keep the computers in a workgroup and restrict access to them using those computers' user accounts? Thank you for your time.

Restrict them from what? If you want to restict a group from accessing all the other machines in the network, just give them seperate subnets.
