Hey there folks--

I've got a laptop with XP Home SP2 on it, but I need to upgrade to Pro to work with the company domain (planning on keeping the Pro on SP1 until SP2 has all the bugs worked out). I'm wondering if I use the Files/Settings Transfer wiz to save everything and install the XP Pro upgrade over Home, will the Files/Settings be able to be restored or will there be some sort of incompatibility?

Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks

You shouldn't have any problems with it; it's pretty generic. Follow the directions on preparing the storage location and be sure you have plenty of space as the file can be very large.

I would (of course) suggest a regular back up of all your necessary files anyway, but I'm sure you do that as religiously as the rest of us do!

If you don't want SP2 in Pro but you wish to upgrade Home rather than a clean install I suggest you remove SP2 from Home before you upgrade to Pro.

The upgrade should make any use of the File and Transfer Settings program unnecessary. You would only require to use it if you did a clean install of Pro. In that case there should be no problems with F.A.S.T.

Sweet... thanks to you both for the info.
